"About The Director"
Andrew Myers began working at Butler Community College in June 2009. As the Director of First-Year Experience, Andrew will create, evaluate, and develop programs at Butler to help new students with their adjustment to college and help them succeed academically and socially in their first year. This includes a Welcome Week Orientation, mentoring opportunities, personal growth, and early intervention for students in need.
Professional Experience
Andrew has worked in higher education for his entire professional career. During those six years, most of his career has been spent working with high school juniors and seniors, transfer students and returning adults as an admissions representative with Wichita State University. While at WSU, Andrew recruited students from Eastern Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Wichita Public Schools, and the rest of the United States! After four years as an admissions representative, Andrew worked for Oklahoma State University’s Career Services office as an employer outreach coordinator before returning to WSU as the admissions representative for all out-of-state students.
Education
Andrew received his Master’s Degree in Communication with an emphasis in organizational and interpersonal communication from Wichita State University in 2007. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Communication with an emphasis in public relations from Emporia State University in 2003. Master’s Thesis: “The Difference Between Appropriate and Inappropriate Interpersonal Self-Disclosure in a Work Environment”
Personal
After being born and living in Farmington, NM for a while, Andrew grew up in Hoisington, KS and Wellington, KS. Other than being a huge movie buff, he loves to go for a run as well as play basketball and tennis. He is a season ticket holder for WSU Shocker Basketball and is a crazy Shocker fan. Andrew and his wife, Erin, are expecting their first baby soon and reside in Wichita, KS.
