"About The Coordinator"

Kara Johnson began working at Butler Community College in June 2009. As the Coordinator of Student Involvement, Kara is responsible for the development an implementation of programs and events that support the needs and promotes the personal development and growth of Butler Community College students. Kara will also serve as the Resident Hall manager for Cummins Hall. This includes providing the tools, information, and programs which will enhance the learning environment of the College.

Kara's focus is providing students with opportunities to participate in a variety of co-curricular programs and events.

Professional Experience

Kara has worked within secondary and higher education for three years now. During those three years, most of her career has been spent working with high school juniors and seniors, as well as college freshman and sophomores. Kara was the Director of Youth Empowerment for the City of Wichita. As director, she pioneered what is now known as the Mayor’s Youth Council for the City of Wichita. Kara’s main focus was to implement valuable programs and events, outside of the classroom. Kara also spent a summer semester interning as a Student Life Specialist. This allowed her to discover what student life is about, and how she could contribute to this area.

Education

In 2006 Kara received her Bachelors Degree in Communication from Wichita State University with 2 minor's in Music and Philosophy. Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Butler Community College in 2004.

Personal

Kara was born and raised in Wichita, Ks. She is the middle of five children and takes on the role of the nurturer. Kara is all about building relationships with whomever she encounters and helping out wherever she is needed. Kara also has a 4 year old adopted brother, who makes the smallest things in life seem grand. She loves spending time with friends and family, planning any social function, shopping, and road trips.
